ALASI2018 Workshop - Practices to linking learning analytics and learning design

Flipped Feedback Design Thinking Activity

You are invited to complete a pre-workshop activity for the "Practices to linking learning analytics and learning design" workshop at ALASI2018.

Do I need to attend the workshop?

No. Even if you are not able to attend the workshop, you can still participate in the the pre-workshop activity. The data you submit will be analysed in the workshop but not included in any publications. You also get to experience a learning activity built with the COMPARE tool.

What does the activity involve?

The activity should take no more than 15-20 minutes of your time. You will need to complete a design thinking activity that involves designing a flipped feedback learning activity with embedded learning analytics. You will need to submit a design, describe the embedded learning analytics, incorporate ideas from other learning designers and evaluate designs submitted by other participants.

What is flipped feedback?

Feedback is often provided to students after an assessment item is submitted, given the students no opportunity to act on feedback. Flipped feedback introduces a series of feedback loops to give feedforward, 'real-time' or embedded feedback. A common learning activity might include a "Draft-comment-revise-resubmit" loop. Additional Information on Flipped Feedback from CETL.

Instructions

You are required to design a flipped feedback learning activity. There are no constraints on your design. You can focus on any subject domain and assessment type. It does not matter if the activity is online, face-to-face or blended. The only requirements are that you include a student feedback cycle and embedded learning analytics (for either the instructor or student). The activity can include a combination of text/artifact submission, self assessment, reflection, brainstorming, assigning students to groups, idea integration from other learners submissions, peer and tutor evaluation (against rubrics), results review and resubmission. You are also encouraged to take on big educational issues such as "Improving Student Evaluative Judgement" and "Idea Synthesis". Simply enter a username and click "Start/Resume Activity" to begin. Please remember your username, as you'll need it to view the peer evaluation results.
